National Register of Historic Places: City of Sault Ste. Marie

We want to extend our heartfelt congratulations to the Commercial District of the City of Sault Ste. Marie, MI as they have recently joined the National Register of Historic Places.

“The Sault Ste. Marie Commercial District, settled in 1668 by European immigrants but occupied by Native Americans thousands of years earlier, is worthy of recognition for its commercial history, ethnic culture and architecture, according to the National Park Service… Sault Ste. Marie is the oldest city in Michigan, and one of the oldest in the United States.”

We feel honored to have roots in this city after having been involved in the renovation of the City Hall building (formerly the U.S. Post Office from its construction in 1910 to 1958) back in 2008-2011. The building was generously gifted to the City of Sault Ste. Marie by Tendercare, Inc and the renovation was transformed from the Tendercare, Inc. headquarters to the City Hall which now houses the offices for the City of Sault Ste. Marie, the Council Chambers, and the Police Department.
